The Area of Maconacon used to be completely covered with verdant forest. From historical accounts, seven families from Lasam, Cagayan were the first settlers which built their settlement along the Dirayrayan River and Dimaconacon River.

 

The Populations increased through time, most of the settlers then were workers of the logging industry. 1969, the municipality of Maconacon was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 5776. The municipality was formerly part of the municipality of Cabagan until became a separate municipal component of Isabela province. It was classified under sixth class municipality up to the present.
