BAMBANTI FESTIVAL OF ISABELA
JANUARY 27-31
Honoring the bountiful harvest of the province and its emerging agro-industrial prowess, Isabela celebrates the Bambanti (Scarecrow) Festival. The festivity showcases the scarecrow dancing spectacles and agricultural booths. The municipalities and cities exhibit their respective culture, beliefs, tradition and origins. This culture-rich celebration vies Isabela as the socio-cultural hub of the north.

Marks the establishment of the civil government of Palanan, the commemoration of the capture of the First President of the Republic, Emilio Aguinaldo and the promotion of the Sabutan products like mats, fans, bags and hut are made of grass grown in the coastal areas of Palanan. A trade fair, streetdancing and evening programs are the highlights of the celebration.

The event highlights the acknowledged source of the original Pancit Cabagan, a local noodle delicacy in the Province of Isabela. Although the festival is not conducted yearly, Pancit Cabagan is known all over the region and dried noodles can be boght daily at the local market.

The festival features a boat race competition by fisherman using traditional, non-motorized bancas propelled by wooden paddles that traverses the wide expanse of Cagayan River, the longest and widest river in the country. The Local Government Unit (LGU) has included a triathlon (biking, running and swimming ) competition in its various activities.
The town features activities highlighting the more 500 water buffalos of the town with buffalo parade, buffalo milking contest, buffalo race and other games in cooperation with the Research and Outreach Office of the Isabela State University.

SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF THE VISITATION OF GUIBANG in Gamu is located along the national highway frequented by travelers passing the Maharlika Highway. It is now as famous as the Guibang Basilica Minore because it also comes alive on July of every year when religious pilgrims from all walks of life come to offer prayers of good health, peace and abundance, among many other intentions. The image of the Our Lady of the Visitation was canonically crowned by the Most Rev. Carmine Pocco, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines on May 26, 1973 at the St. Ferdinand Cathedral in Gamu,Isabela. The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines at its 52nd Annual Bishop’s Meeting held in Tagaytay City on January 24-26, 1986 have approved the petition of His Excellency, Most Rev. Miguel Purugganan, Bishop of Ilagan for the Church of Our Lady of the Visitation of Guibang to be called a National Shrine.

Patronal town fiesta in honor to St. Mathias and the promotion of Tumauini as source of corn and its by-products. Mangi is the Ybanag term for corn and is celebrated with street dancing along the national hi-way. Tumauini is also the home of St. Mathias Church, a Spanish brick colonial church (1753) with the only cylindrical belfry in the country and is considered a national cultural treasure.
